2026 has started with some exciting developments here at Chess Plastics, helping us shape our workforce and further develop our skills.

This includes our search for an apprentice to join us as a Process Setter and kick-start a career in engineering.

Happy Retirement to Jonas!

We recently said goodbye to our Injection Moulding Setter, Jonas, as he begins his retirement. Jonas has worked at Chess Plastics for almost a decade and has been an integral part of delivering our high-quality services.

The team at Chess Plastics wish Jonas all the best in his retirement and thank him for his years of dedicated service.

Kick-Start Your Engineering Career

As we develop our team, Chess Plastics is currently looking for new apprentices. This exciting opportunity has arisen for a 3-year apprenticeship in process setting with day/block release in polymer training leading to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Award on the Polymer Processing Technician Apprenticeship from City of Wolverhampton College.

As an apprentice, you’ll work hands-on with our technical team, supporting the setup and operation of up to 20 plastic injection moulding machines. You’ll install and set tools, fine-tune production settings, monitor processes in real time and help ensure every product meets quality and safety standards.

Working closely with the Technical Manager, you’ll play a key role in keeping production running smoothly while building valuable, in-demand engineering skills.

In 2024, apprentice Libby Hall was named Level 2 Apprentice of the Year at the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Group Training Association Awards 2024, recognising her dedication, skill and progression within the programme.

This achievement reflects the quality of training, mentoring and hands-on experience provided through Chess Plastics’ apprenticeship pathway and underlines the company’s ongoing focus on developing the next generation of engineering talent.

Does this apprenticeship opportunity interest you?

To apply, you’ll need GCSEs (grades 9–4 or A–C) in English and Maths, or equivalent. The role is full-time, working 8-hour shifts Monday to Friday. Applications close on 30th June 2026, with an expected start date of 3rd August 2026.
